Core Web Vitals Guide: Optimizing LCP with modern formats
Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) is directly tied to your hero image. Learn how to use PixoraWave to pass your Web Vitals check.
Understanding LCP
Largest Contentful Paint measures when the largest content element on the screen becomes visible. For most landing pages, this is a hero banner or featured image. If this image is a 2MB JPEG, your LCP will fail.
The 300ms Rule
To pass Core Web Vitals, your LCP should occur within 2.5 seconds of the page starting to load. By converting your hero assets to AVIF and resizing them to the exact width needed (no more, no less), you can often shave 500ms+ off your load time.
LCP Checklist
- Convert all hero assets to WebP or AVIF
- Explicitly define width and height attributes
- Never 'Lazy Load' your LCP (Hero) image
